The Fluval GravelVAC Multi‑Substrate Cleaner (M/L) is engineered to simplify one of the most important aquarium maintenance tasks: cleaning the substrate while performing regular water changes. By removing accumulated waste from the gravel, this cleaner helps maintain clear water, stable water quality and a healthier environment for your fish and plants.
Beginner‑friendly operation
-
Easy Start siphon bulb allows quick priming with just a few pumps, eliminating the need to start a siphon by mouth or awkward lifting of the aquarium.
-
Thumb‑operated flow regulator lets you slow down or speed up the water flow while you work, so you can clean delicate areas or fast‑track open spaces without removing too much water at once.
-
A built‑in gravel guard helps prevent substrate from entering and clogging the tube, reducing the risk of sudden stops in flow and protecting both the cleaner and your aquarium inhabitants.
Versatile for multiple substrates and tank types
-
Designed for use with a wide range of substrates, including sand, standard aquarium gravel and small decorative rock, so you can use the same tool across different setups.
-
Suitable for both freshwater and marine aquariums, making it an excellent choice whether you keep community fish, cichlids or reef systems.
-
The Medium/Large size is optimized for aquariums up to 24″ / 60 cm deep, helping you reach the bottom comfortably without getting your hands excessively wet.
Extended reach and secure setup
-
Supplied intake and extension tubes provide additional reach for taller tanks or hard‑to‑access areas behind rocks and decorations.
-
Flexible PVC hoses connect the cleaning tube to your bucket, while the included bucket clip secures the hose in place to avoid spills during water changes.
-
The flow regulator is positioned within easy reach on the hose, so you can adjust the siphon speed instantly if fish approach or substrate begins to lift.
How a beginner should use it (overview)
-
Place a clean bucket lower than the aquarium and attach the hose using the included bucket clip.
-
Fully submerge the intake tube in the aquarium, pump the Easy Start bulb several times until water begins flowing steadily into the bucket, then gently push the tube into the gravel and lift it slightly to allow debris to rise and be removed.
-
Move methodically across the substrate, using the thumb‑flow regulator to control the speed, and stop once you have removed a sensible percentage of water according to your maintenance routine.
