A Beginner’s Guide to Safe Feeding: If you are new to keeping large snakes or lizards, handling frozen-thawed prey is the safest method for both you and your pet. It eliminates the risk of “prey injury” to your reptile and is much more convenient to store.

1. Thawing: Never use a microwave. Thaw the rat slowly in a refrigerator overnight or place it in a sealed bag in lukewarm water for 2–3 hours.

2. Temperature Check: Ensure the rat is defrosted all the way to the center. Before feeding, you can dip the head in warm water (approx. 38°C) to mimic the body heat of live prey.

3. Offer: Use long feeding tongs to present the rat to your reptile to avoid accidental bites.
