Description

Redtail Sharks have striking jet black bodies with vibrant red tail fins. They are medium-sized tropical fish that can be semi-aggressive, particularly in smaller aquariums or with similarly-sized tank mates. In a spacious 55-gallon or larger aquarium with ample plants, driftwood, and rock-work, they can live peacefully and thrive as long-lived companions.

Native to tropical waterways in Thailand, Redtail Sharks prefer environments with abundant plants and tree roots. To replicate this in the aquarium, provide suitable aquascaping that allows them to establish territories.

These fish are territorial and may become aggressive towards others of their kind or similarly shaped species. However, this aggression can be minimized in medium to large aquariums (90 gallons or more) with plenty of hiding spots. They do well with active species like barbs, tetras, and rainbowfish but may leave smaller fish alone in properly designed setups.

Redtail Sharks are easy to feed and will accept a variety of meaty and plant-based foods, including flakes, pellets, freeze-dried bloodworms, tubifex worms, and vegetable-based foods. A varied diet is key to their health.
