Description
The Blue Neon Platy is a hardy, selectively bred variant of the red and orange Platy fish native to Central America, featuring vibrant sapphire blue coloration. Ideal for beginner hobbyists, they are easy to care for and thrive in aquariums of 10 gallons or more with calm, well-filtered water, plants, and driftwood. They are compatible with tropical community fish and larger freshwater invertebrates.
As omnivores, Blue Neon Platies eat a variety of foods, including algae, plant matter, and insects. They readily accept flakes, freeze-dried, and frozen foods, with treats like bloodworms or brine shrimp.
A live-bearing species, they reproduce easily from 3–4 months of age. Males are smaller and more colorful than females, with fry requiring plant cover and crushed flake food to grow, making them simple to breed.
