Description
The Albino Rainbow Shark is a color variant of the Rainbow Shark, found in Southeast Asia’s river basins, including the Mekong and Chao Phraya rivers. These fish thrive in calm, moderately-flowing waters with sandy bottoms and abundant vegetation. Despite their shark-like appearance, they are ray-finned fish, not true sharks, and are commonly available in the aquarium trade.
Albino Rainbow Sharks are moderately difficult to care for due to their territorial behavior, particularly towards others of their species or similar-looking fish. They require a larger aquarium (55 gallons or more) with plenty of plants, caves, and tunnels to reduce aggression. For multiple fish or with species like Red Tail or Bala Sharks, a 125-gallon tank is recommended. They prefer sandy substrates but can adapt to gravel and need ample vegetation and hiding spots.
While generally compatible with most community fish, Albino Rainbow Sharks may be aggressive towards shy species. In smaller tanks (under 30 gallons), their territorial behavior increases. In the wild, they feed on algae, decaying plant matter, insect larvae, and small meaty items. In the aquarium, they eat flake foods, frozen foods, tubifex worms, bloodworms, and algae wafers, with a diet rich in vegetables to support their health.
