Origin: Native to Southeast Asia, particularly Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand
Size:
Grows up to 4 inches (10 cm)
Coloration:
Body: The Kuhli Loach has a snake-like, slender body that is typically yellowish-brown with dark vertical stripes. The pattern resembles a snake or eel, making them very unique in appearance.
The tail is often darker, adding to their distinctive look.
Tank Size: Minimum 10-20 gallons
Water Temperature:75-86°F (24-30°C)
pH:6.0-7.5
Diet: Omnivorous; feeds on small invertebrates, worms, small crustaceans, and algae. In captivity, they also accept algae wafers, bloodworms, and brine shrimp.
Temperament: Peaceful, shy, and nocturnal. Kuhli Loaches are often found hiding during the day and are most active at night, foraging and swimming in the substrate.
Compatibility: Best kept with other peaceful species such as Tetras, Corydoras, Guppies, and Snails. Avoid aggressive or large fish that might intimidate them.
Breeding: Difficult to breed in captivity; they require very specific conditions for successful reproduction, and it has not been widely achieved in aquariums.
Care Tips:
Provide a soft substrate (like sand or fine gravel) as they are bottom dwellers and love to burrow.
Include plenty of hiding spots such as plants, rocks, and driftwood to make them feel secure.
Ensure the water is well-oxygenated and that the tank has stable, clean water parameters.
