Lotus pods are a natural decoration for your aquarium. They have small holes where shrimp can hide and find food. Lotus pods are a natural product, so they all look a little different. This makes your aquarium look more natural, like the environment where shrimp and fish live.

Lotus pods naturally contain polyphenols, proteins, and polysaccharides. These substances are believed to have medicinal and disinfectant properties, but this has not yet been proven.   Before using lotus pods, it is recommended to boil them for 40 minutes. While cooking, place a stone or other heavy object on the pods to keep them submerged. Then, soak them in water overnight, again under a heavy object. This will help to prevent the pods from floating.

This is a natural product, so it may vary in color, size, and texture. Each pod is unique! The photo is a good representation of what you can expect.

Lotus pods are part of the “seed head” of the lotus plant (Nelumbo nucifera). They have an average diameter of 3.5 – 4 inches (approximately 8.89-10.16 cm). They are a really cool piece of decor for an aquarium with a Southeast Asian or Indian theme!
