Opaline Gourami (Trichogaster trichopterus)
The Opaline Gourami (Trichogaster trichopterus), also known by its various synonyms including Labrus trichopterus and Osphromenus siamensis, is an elegant and hardy freshwater species, popular for its striking marbled blue-and-white coloration and graceful movements. This captive-bred colour form is a domesticated strain of the Blue Gourami, well-suited to community aquariums with peaceful tank mates.
Growing up to approximately 15 cm in length, the Opaline Gourami thrives in a wide range of water conditions with a preferred temperature of 23–30°C and pH between 6.0 and 8.0. It is an adaptable species requiring no special lighting and is compatible with a variety of community fish, though it should not be housed with other long-finned species due to occasional territorial behavior in males.
